Welcome to another exciting episode of Throw Those Dice! This time we'll have a shorter episode since I'll just be playing with 1 player. Which dice game are we playing today? Well, a more recent version of Yahtzee of course! This is Daniel "dvik" Vik's version of the well-known dice game where you have to throw three of a kinds, four of a kinds, streets, and hope you'll get 5 the same and score a YAHTZEE! It looks like dvik wrote this game back in 1986, and finished/released it during MSXdev `07 in 2007. There are some improvements over Breetveld's version, such as not having to relock your dice each throw, and being able to use cursors to select each die. Also the music during the intro screen and game over screen are better. It also has some more animation, and it is English so non-Dutch can play it too. ;-) It got a 9th place with 36 points in the competition. You can download it from http://msxdev.msxblue.com/?page_id=305 MSXdev is a great initiative that originally had the goal to "celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the creation of the MSX standard". At the time MSX2 was dominant in the scene, as most games that were still being developed, focused on MSX2. The MSXdev competitions eventually ended up being so successful for the MSX(1) popularity, that nowadays the majority of games for our beloved homecomputer system seem to be for MSX instead of MSX2. This recording was made using development build 12178 of openMSX for Mac OS X. The openMSX emulator is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and several other system, including some handhelds.
